The year was the 6th wettest on record, with rainfall in the Sydney basin almost 30% higher than average. The heavy falls in March saw areas of the state record their highest rainfall ever.
The Hawkesbury River burst its banks and flooded the wetland to a depth of around 6.5mts.
The flood from the river washed large fish into the wetland and these attracted the raptors, pelicans and cormorants.
