2002

In 2002 a terrifying bushfire ripped through the area. Although members were present attempting to control it, such was the desperation that no photos exist of the day. Much property was lost. The eucalypt forest recovered reasonably quickly, although much of the understorey has never returned to its previous state, and the native rock orchids have not reappeared. The flat areas were immediately covered by literally thousands of wattles, a natural primary coloniser, which state continued until a mass die-off 2019-21. The Wetland itself was partially burnt, exposing the acid sulfate soil and encouraging the over-growth of reeds. It has taken twenty years for the Wetland and its catchment to return to something like its former state.
